Transformers any-continuity comment fic and art party!

Welcome to the party!

Here's how it works:

Post a comment with at least one character, pairing or moresome, and a word or short phrase in the subject line. Only one prompt per comment.

Then respond to other peoples' prompts with a short fic or a sketch (or an icon or a short photo comic - anything you like really, as long as you've created it for that prompt).

Any number of people can respond to any prompt, and there are no limits on the number of prompts you can post.

As for content, anything Transformers related goes. So, any characters, any continuity, any rating, any genre (and, if your fic goes that way, any type of smut). I only ask that you post a rating, and warn or advise for common squicks/triggers in the subject line, or - if it's too short - in the body of the comment above the fic itself.

Example prompts:

Optimus and Megatron - connections
Chromia/Ironhide - bigger guns
Trypticon and Metroplex - this world ain't big enough for the both of us

On another note, I'd be grateful for fic recommendations (preferably for fics hosted on AO3).

I'm looking for absorbing, well-written complete TF fanfic of any genre (except robot pregnancy/babyfic/kidfic). I'm especially interested in anything featuring OCs or minor characters as protagonists.

I'm also very interested in any good Lovecraftian fanfic.

Itty bitty First Aid is done! Next time, I'll make his torso far more red, but I'm pretty pleased with the way he turned out. His little wheels <3

It was a bit perplexing where to put his shoulder tires on this, as they'd be in the way where they are in his G1 cartoon form, but if I moved them too far onto his chest they'd just end up looking like boobs. Soooo, shoulders containing wheels. It has the happy result that if he trips over and falls flat on his face, he won't actually fall flat on his face. Awwwww :D

In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you think would make a good intro into XYZ fandom. Rec a fandom overview, an introductory picspam, stories that define and shape the fandom.

Aside from the Wiki and the other wiki (and I always preferred the second one for its entertaining snark, although I use them both a lot), I find this damn near impossible for the TF fandom. I don't think any stories define the fandom all by themselves, and I'm nowhere near enough to being in the loop, and I came into it far too late, to know which ones shaped the fandom. I suppose I see the fandom as being slightly different to each person who encounters it, depending on their faction and fic preferences, how they engage with it, and what they want out of it. I'm far more confident with Lovecraft :P

And, on the subject of Lovecraft (and as far as stories that define and shape the fandom, I'm looking at August Derlath and certain works by Robert Howard *coughstsathogguacoughs*, but that's not entirely within the spirit of this challenge :P)

For what I think of as my first (most enduring, and most mainstream) fandom love, there can be no better place to start than the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society. They do (pro quality) radio plays, films, awesome LARP props, and have done a musical and two CDs of parody festive music. And they also do t-shirts and stuff, but I love their radio plays, films and music best.

On the subject of Lovecraftian songs, Terence Chua's filk is fucking awesome. Seriously. My favourites are all of them. Especially 'Do you hear the pipes, Cthulhu?'.

Even if you don't get all the references, the songs are entertaining enough by themselves, and set to very well known tunes.

Moving away from Lovecraft for my final rec, although Lovecraft is never far from this comic:

The 2000AD forum's Creative Common section. I don't know if they do any more, but they used to have a regular just-for-fun art competition, which was awesome. Anyway, this is always a good place to find interesting art.

I'm going to move away from TF fandom for this, because I know so many truly amazing artists, writers, crafters and RPers that I really can't choose who to write about.

Instead, I'm going to write about a few people I know from an offline writing group.

I'm aching to update The Wages of Compassion, but I've only just finished Draft Zero of Chapter 12, so I need to sit on it a while. *is fidgety*

But hey, at least I'm writing (this) again! I began again properly yesterday, after stressing about it with the file open and working on everything but for the last week. I'm glad I can still kick out a 5.5k chapter in a weekend. I don't aim for a specific length with chapters, they just end up as long as they end up, but it's nice that they've been mainly between 4500 and 6500 words. Feels like a good length for something like this.

On another note, TF yawns and sneezes amuse (MUSH chat, great fun :D).

Day 7

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.

I'm incredibly lucky. I have wonderful and exceptionally talented friends, an amazing beta (and other friends happy to beta my work as well :D), and am be surrounded by supreme awesomeness :D I do, however, have a few wishes, just none that I've ever been afraid to ask for.

1. For someone to tell me where I can buy small balls/ends for my inner ear piercings that have Decepticon insignias on. Preferably UK-based, or with cheap postage to the UK. I need something that I can put on the ends of my banana bars and just leave there without having to take out. Ever. This is for my left tragus mainly, but I'd like two so I can have one in my right rook piercing as well.

2. (TFA) Swindle sitting in Megatron's lap, with both of them incredibly pleased about it. No lapdance, although I'd be happy with any kind of non-spark smut, or just PG-13 lap-occupying. Fic or art, either would make me very joyous. Although this probably doesn't count, because it's not like I've been afraid to ask for it in the past, it just doesn't seem like something that anyone else is interested in :P

3. A good basic plush toy pattern that I can alter to make a cuddly Vortex and Bruticus.

In your own space, share something non-fannish you are passionate about with your fannish friends.

This one was a challenge, as I regularly subject my LJ fList to my non-fannish interests, especially the crafting. And so, I'm going to post some original fiction.

This flashfic goes with a novella I'm writing, which has the happy working title of 'Here be Ziggurats'. It's actually called 'A Dream of Delamor', but the first title is more accurate. I'm pretty sure I posted most of that under fLock on LJ if anyone's interested in reading it.

And lo! on this second day of January, in the Year of the End Times, it was declared on Twitter that today should see the start of a new round of the WIP meme!

I love this meme because it always helps with motivation.

How it works: Post the first sentence (or three) from every WIP you're currently working on, even if it's very short. Then invite people to ask questions about your WIPs. With any luck, you'll get talking about writing, and the motivation to take that WIP one step closer to completion will appear as if by magic!

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

How to choose only three? Wow, this is going to be hard. I'm going to avoid choosing fics I've already recced over on tf_fic_squee (master list of recced fics is here), and choose some fanworks I haven't reccommended publically yet.

1. ayngelcat's Smokescreen and Swindle: The Beginning.

This fic follows Smokescreen and Swindle from their first meeting, and shows how they got into a relationship. It's a WIP, and it's great fun to follow. I love the way Ayngel envisages Cybertron, and the emotional oomph that she puts into character interactions is just stunning. I feel that this fic deserves a hell of a lot more attention than it's received.

2. This one isn't a fic, but rather some epic level worldbuilding by dogstar, shaaraseeker, videetcredere and their team of assistants, on the War Dawn MUSH.

I've been lurking around while they've been putting this together. It's taken them months, and the setting is brilliant. It's so thoughtful, and with a lot of potential for awesome plots and great character interaction. It opened yesterday, and is very friendly to newcomers.

If you're looking for an immersive real-time RP with realistic demands on your time, a great admin team, and the potential to play either canon or original characters in a pre-to-beginning-of-the-war setting, this could well be for you.

3. And my third recommendation is the wonderful fanart of dragintothefli. You can browse her gallery here. I especially love her SG First Aid and SG Vortex, but she's made plenty of non-gestalt art, and it's certainly worth a look.

Saw this on Femme's LJ. akamine_chan is hosting/leading a fandom Snowflake Challenge, and it looks like a fun challenge. And so, I'm leaping on the bandwagon :)

Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

I've not been writing fanfic for long, only sicne the Autumn of 2009, but I seem to have generated a good-sized master list since then.

Do you visualize scenes when/before you write them? Or do you go by how the words sound in your head? Both? Something else entirely?

Both. I can't write a scene unless I can visualise it. But I also go by the feel of the words as well. Especially when editing, as sometimes a scene will come out totally different than I imagined, and the words I used to describe it will paint a very different picture for me when I go back and re-read.

What do you do when the words just aren't coming?

Do you like to tell stories orally as well as writing them down?

No. I don't like the sound of my own voice. I don't mind telling stories aloud if they're historical anecdotes (I worked as a tour guide for a while when I was a postgrad student), but I really don't like telling aloud the same kind of stories that I enjoy writing down.

What's your policy on remixes, podfic, and other transformative work?
